‘Bus’ popular on Walk to School Day

STUDENTS from two Pakenham primary schools took part in Walk to School Day on Tuesday, 27 March.
Students from Pakenham Hills Primary school and St Patrick’s Primary School took part in the day, which encourages students to walk to school.
They were some of many children across Cardinia Shire that participated in the annual day.
Some students opted to walk with friends or parents instead of getting a ride to school in the car, and some joined a Walking School Bus.
The Walking School Bus Program is funded by Vichealth and administered by Cardinia Shire Council. It involves volunteer parents leading children to and from school along a prescribed route.
Council Walking School Bus officer Kellie McDougall said along the way the students stopped to pick up more walkers.
Cardinia Shire mayor Kate Lempriere joined in the day, travelling on a Walking School Bus to St Patrick’s Primary from the highway side of the railway line on McGregor Road.
Walking School Buses in term time operate at Emerald, Garfield and Beaconsfield primary schools.
