Wheels fall off the wagon

The Cardinia Waters Bowls Club visited Woodlands Park in last Monday’s Inter Village Round Robin.
All looked good for another win when players were leading overall by 11 shots with two ends to go, but then the wheels fell off and they dropped 13 shots and went down 85 to 87.
It was a disappointing result but the team held top spot on the ladder.
The least experienced of the skippers, Len Judge was the best rink, with Dennis Patmore and Gunter Baumbach he led all day and won 25 to 16.
The other winner was Stuart Tokely who, with Chas Stewart and Charlie Borg, had a tight battle and was in front until he lost a seven on the 17th end but fought back to win with a pair on the final end. His score was 24 to 23.
Skipper Wendy Titcombe, Gary Salomons and Mick Knight were behind from the fourth end and played catch up all day to lose 17 to 23.
It looked good for skipper John Van Vugt who, with John Carr and Simon Koning, got in front with a five on the 19th end but dropped eight shots on the final two to go down 19 to 25.
On Sunday the finals of the Club 100 Up and Minor Championship were played.
All the contestants have only played bowls since coming to the Village and defeated some experienced bowlers on the way to the final.
The 100 Up was between Mick Knight and Donny Gibson.
Mick was four behind on handicap but shot away to an early lead with nines on the fifth and sixth ends and led 41 to 22 on the eighth.
But Donny who has only started bowling this season scored a maximum 10 on the ninth to get back in the game.
Donny was looking like a winner when he got to the front with big scores on the 15th and 16th for a 73 to 70 lead but Mick fought back and drew his way to a good win, 103 to 90.
The Minor Championship was not as close with the more experienced and in form Simon Koning getting away to an early lead from John Carr, he led 10 to nil on the fourth end.
Simon was never in danger of losing as he went on to a comfortable win 25 shots to nine.
John Carr’s effort in making the final was very good considering he has had only one season of Pennant bowls.
Simon topped off a great season.
On winning this game he added to his wins in the Monday Night Triples and the Mixed Pairs.
Members are reminded to get their money in for the presentation night on 12 April.
