CRANBOURNE’s Mick Bellette did all he could to try and help his brother David beat his battle with Leukaemia.
Mr Bellette donated bone marrow to his brother, but unfortunately David lost his fight against the disease in 1992.
That is why Mr Bellette has signed up to the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, where he will lose his locks and goatie in honour of his brother and to help those who are going through a similar battle.
“It’s my way of helping others going through this horrible disease,” he said.
“It is also in honour of my brother. He was my idol and I looked up to him.”
Mr Bellette said he had not shaved his goatee in more than 10 years, so it would be a different look for him.
“A lot of my friends and my current partner have never seen me without my goatee,” he said.
“So, it’s all coming off on 13 March at my local darts centre before we play that day.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the expressions on people’s faces.
“It will all be worth it, knowing I’m doing something good for others.”
Mr Bellette said he was hoping to raise $500, but said every dollar counted, so whatever amount he raises will be worth it.
World’s Greatest Shave raises about half the money the Leukaemia Foundation needs to fund its important work – providing support to people with blood cancer, as well as millions in research.
