THE Family Connections supported playgroup was relaunched on Tuesday, much to the delight of many Pakenham families.
Connections and Pakenham Uniting Church partnered to relaunch the playgroup, supported by the playgroups and parent groups initiative (SPPI) grant.
The playgroups first session was held on Tuesday morning, and sessions will run every Tuesday morning from 10am until 12.30pm at Pakenham Uniting Church.
Launch event activities included animal petting farm, storytellers from Casey-Cardinia libraries, games and activities, healthy snacks, food demonstrations and the PlayStart van.
Council awards SPPI grants annually to local playgroups and parents groups which provide quality playtime and social activities for children throughout the area.
Council’s Family Connections officer Elissa Sewell said playgroups provided an opportunity to bring young families in the shire together.
“Playgroups are a great way for families to meet other children and parents in a safe, fun and engaging environment,” Ms Sewell said.
“They provide opportunities for kids to learn through play and develop friendships for the whole family.”
The Family Connections supported playgroup will be funded by the Pakenham Uniting Church with Connections co-ordinating the playgroup and supporting participating families.
Council runs or supports a range of community and supported playgroups for families with children aged five and under.
Council assists these playgroups by providing information on events, training and support, resources and links to community services and family support.
