PAKENHAM Police are keen for owners to claim lost property that has been handed into the station.
A mini motor bike, power tools, bicyles, jewellery, mobile phones and purses are all part of a big collection of lost property siting at the Pakenham police station.
A resuscitation mannequin is one of the more unusual items that has been handed in.
Sergeant Graham Higginbotham said anyone who had lost items since late last year should check with the police as to whether the item had been handed in.
Sgt Higginbotham said a seven-year-old boy recently claimed his bike and skateboard, which had been found by police.
His mother had been reminded by a friend to check with police and the items were returned in the same condition they were found, according to Sgt. Higginbotham.
“Many people seem to forget to come and check with us if their property has been handed in,” Sgt Higginbotham said. “Lost property which is not collected will eventually be declared as unclaimed.
“It then will be photographed and destroyed or auctioned if of any value,” he said.
Sgt Higginbotham said anyone who had lost an item needed to be able to identify that item and prove ownership with a receipt or by other means to claim the lost property.
Police will need to dispose of the big collection gathered over the past couple of months within four to six weeks.
