Hands together for hands up

ONE of the most prominent not-for-profit organisations in the shire is encouraging the community to take a moment to appreciate volunteers.
This Friday, 5 December, marks National Volunteer Day (IVD), and volunteer co-ordinator from Pakenham Outlook Sarah Kelly said it is a great chance to reflect on the hard work of volunteers.
“Our service relies on our valued volunteers who make it possible for Outlook to do our work,” she said.
“They are part of our team and do everything from admin to gardening and participant support in the community.
“To celebrate the dedication of its helpers, Outlook is holding a Morning Tea With Treats on Friday 6 December, with complimentary massages from The Beauty Boutiques Helen Slattery.
Chief executive officer of Volunteering Victoria Sue Noble said Outlook in Pakenham was a prime example of powerful volunteering.
“Imagine what it might be like without volunteers in this community,” she said.
“International Volunteer Day is a timely reminder to stop and think about the great work volunteers do and how rich that contribution is to all our lives.”
IVD is celebrated worldwide with thousands of volunteers involved in a range of events as diverse as the volunteers themselves.
Events include clean-up campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, morning teas and many other activities that are all aimed at highlighting the role of volunteers in their communities.
