KC in it for the kids

By BRIDGET COOK

NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch (NHW) Casey has turned the page on a new initiative to help spread the safety message.
The group’s mascot, ‘KC Neighbourhood Watch Dog’ launched a children’s safety book this month.
The book ‘KC Goes to the Park’ is aimed at teaching small children the importance of knowing their name, address and their parents name and phone number.
NHW Casey secretary Jennifer Baird said the book came about as part of the program which sees ‘KC’ visit local kindergartens.
Ms Baird said the mascot and a volunteer regularly visit kindergartens to spread the safety message to young children.
“We realised that we didn’t have anything to leave the kids when we left,” she said.
“So it evolved from there and we decided to make a book about the messages we are trying to spread.
“The book covers the necessity for children to learn their full name, address and phone number, as well as how to recognise a policeman.”
Ms Baird said the group planned on extending their program and hoped to visit more kindergartens in the New Year.
If anyone would like to obtain a copy of the book, which was sponsored by Bank of Melbourne, they can contact Ms Baird on 9799 3326.
