A SAFER community for women and children is a top priority for police, councils and welfare agencies.
As part of White Ribbon Day events across Pakenham, community leaders and White Ribbon ambassadors signed a pledge to make a difference and curb the worrying trends of family violence in Casey, Cardinia and Dandenong.
At the White Ribbon Day Men’s Breakfast on Monday morning, Cardinia Shire mayor Graeme Moore acknowledged the work of councillors Brett Owen and Collin Ross, who were both involved in various projects related to the cause.
“While the reason we are here is a serious and solemn one, I hope you enjoy this opportunity to gather with others who believe this to be a worthwile cause,” he said.
“This is an ideal platform not only to celebrate what the Challenge Family Violence project has achieved, but also to reflect on what you personally want to achieve in this space, in the future for men as well as women and children.
“When you leave here today having signed the accord, you’ll have made a commitment to behave with the utmost of respect and dignity, promote gender equality and encourage others to do the same.”
Other events in the shire included a peaceful walk through Pakenham, art displays and the launch of a website.
