Cancer fundraiser on the cards

CARD classes are helping fund cancer research next month.
Pakenham’s Sandie Downey is holding the classes as a Cancer Council Victoria Girls Night In fundraiser during October.
“Last year I lost my best friend to cancer so these events have an extra special meaning to me,” she said.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my friend, Jen, and the battle she fought and all cancer patients as they fight the biggest battle of their life.”
Ms Downey has run the card making classes in the past, all with a pink theme and lots of fun.
“Even though it won’t be on a big scale – it’s going to be fun and it is also a time of awareness,” she said.
“I like to remind the girlies who come along to get onto that much needed pap smear test and to be aware of their bodies.”
The classes will run from mid to late October and have limited numbers.
Each class will also include other fun activities and mini-fundraisers.
“There will also be a raffle and mini auction of goodies to help raise much needed funds to help find a cure for this terrible disease,” she said.

The Girls Night In in a fundraiser for Cancer Council Victoria in which woman gather and are asked to donate what they would have spent on a night out.
Last year 52 women in Cardinia took part.
Cancer Council spokeswoman Deb Stringer said all funds raised will go towards the women’s cancer projects that need it most.
“The beauty of this campaign is it can be as casual or as extravagant as you like – from chick flicks in your jim jams to a pink-themed dance party.
“It’s also the perfect excuse to get the girls together,” Ms Stringer said.
“Last year in Cardinia, 52 passionate Girls Night In hosts helped raise $27767.
“That’s an incredible effort and we’d love for even more women to get involved this year.”
