Movie stars in plans to boost Lakeside’s social scene…

TWILIGHT movies are part of the big plans for the Lakeside Community Development Forum (LCDF) as the new committee starts off another financial year.
New chairperson Wendy Andrews outlined the plans for the group in the coming year to grow membership and sponsorship, as well as increasing the number of fun family events run in Lakeside.
“We have about 45 members and families, out of 3000 families in Lakeside I think that could be boosted tremendously,” she said.
“What we want to do this year is bring back the twilight movies, the Summer Buzz, that Delfin used to put on.
“That included the summer breakfasts and two twilight movies.
“They were very well patronised not only by Lakeside residents but also others in the shire.”
Ian Sparrow is the new vice-chair of the group and said there were about 90 members in previous years when the group had the support of Delfin.
“The whole thing was different back then, you could do more and know that you could afford it,” he said.
Outgoing chairwoman Clair Tomlinson said in her report for the year that it had been a pleasure to serve in her role.
“I have tried to bring the LCDF back to its former glory and I feel that I have achieved most of that, with a big help from Wendy Andrews, Ian and Fiona Sparrow in mid-August this year,” she said.
The new committee is Ms Andrews, Mr Sparrow, Christine Quarrie, Pip and David Chalmers, Ms Tomlinson, Jarrah Bevilacqua and Clive Rogers.
Ms Andrews said so far this year, the group had run a Teddy bears picnic, an Easter egg hunt and six social events.
She said plans for events included breakfast at the lake with the CFA and Santa, a Christmas social event, summer holiday fun day and a Halloween party.
“We have a group of people working towards the same goal, that is, loking after the people of Lakeside,” she said.
“It is a family oriented estate we want to get people out there meeting their neighbours.”
Mr Sparrow said Lakeside had a unique sense of community.
“It is a lovely thing to be a part of,” he said.
“We encourage people to come to us with their concerns, we want to champion those concerns or at least direct them to the right people.”
