A GROUP of Pakenham women have rallied together to plan a walk in honour of murdered Pakenham mum Kylie Blackwood.
Flyers have been seen around Pakenham encouraging residents to reclaim their town against violence.
Plans for a walk from the Gloria Jeans car park to Bourke Park at 10am on 24 August have taken off.
Police have yet to find her killer but suspect her death was the result of a bungled burglary.
An estimated 1000 mourners turned out for Mrs Blackwood’s funeral service at St Patrick’s Church on Monday morning.
One of the women behind the walk, Kerry McPhee, said it was an idea she tossed around over a cup of coffee.
She has never organised an event like it before and she doesn’t personally know the Blackwood family.
But she wanted to do something and that’s when the idea came up to march through Pakenham and reclaim the streets.
“It was just a suggestion but it started over a cup of coffee,” Ms McPhee said.
Flyers have been made up to be used to let people know about the peaceful walk.
She said there would be a speaker at the event and Cardinia Shire Council had shown its support.
“The road will be blocked off for about an hour – it will probably only take half an hour,” she said.
“We don’t know how many people will come along – the last count was between 400 and 500.”
There are also plans for balloons to be released following the walk into Bourke Park.
A donation of $2 to participate in the walk would be appreciated.
