Boost for infrastructure

CARDINIA Shire Council could share in a $150 million funding boost for local councils and shires across Australia.
The shire has been allocated $665,054 in round five of the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF), but now has to decide which projects it will hope to fund.
Cardinia Council’s Governance Manager Doug Evans said the funding would give council an opportunity to decide what infrastructure was most needed.
“This funding will help build and renew community infrastructure in Cardinia Shire,” he said.
“Council is currently considering its priority projects that are eligible under this program, and will submit the funding application by the 22 July deadline.”
Councils and shires will share the Regional Development Australia (RDA) funding based on the current distribution of the Financial Assistance Grants.
Southern Melbourne RDA Chair, John Bennie said the grants allowed councils and shires to progress with economic growth for their municipalities.
“The RDA Round 5 arrangement reinforces the Federal Government’s agenda regarding local development,” Mr Bennie said.
“Local councils and shires can build or renew community infrastructure such as sporting facilities, libraries, town halls, playgrounds and child care facilities.
