Sweat for charity

By BRIDGET COOK

CASEY residents are being urged to sweat it out for a good cause this weekend.
Casey fundraising group Delishously Pink has teamed up with Bodyworks Fitness Cranbourne to run a circuit-a-thon this Saturday to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Team members will take it in turns to attempt to either work out on the treadmill, bike or cross trainer for 12 hours as a team.
Event manager Kym Frost said they had 43 people registered to take part, which made up five teams.
Ms Frost said people could still register, and urged people to get involved.
“We would have liked a little more response, but we feel next year we will hold this event on a Sunday,” she said.
“This will be an annual event for Bodyworks Fitness, they are hoping to grow the event a little more each year.”
Cost per person is $35, with $20 going towards the NBCF.
NBCF is Australia’s leading community-supported organisation dedicated to supporting high quality research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.
When the NBCF was founded, 30 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer lost their battle with the disease. In less than 20 years, this figure has halved.
NBCF chief executive Carole Renouf said she believed that achievement was primarily due to research.
“Although progress is being made, there is still a long way to go,” she said.
“A continued and concerted research effort is vital for improving the quality of life for those living with breast cancer, as well as moving towards breast cancer prevention and cure.
“The contribution from activities such as circuit-a-thon will help bring NBCF closer to their aspirational goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
“NBCF encourages you to support this initiative and make a real difference to the many lives that have been affected by breast cancer.”
Registration forms can be collected from Bodyworks Fitness Cranbourne or by emailing delishouslypink@optusnet.com.au or call 0416 200 546.
