Safety at any cost

A PERSON who drove dangerously outside a school last year has been convicted and fined.
The City of Casey prosecuted a driver who was convicted and fined at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court for dangerous driving outside the Fountain Gate Primary School in July 2012.
The offender was fined $600 and had their licence suspended for six months.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon said the council placed an extremely high importance on safe driving and pedestrian safety at all times.
“We are very pleased with this outcome as it reflects the seriousness of the offence and will hopefully encourage other motorists to drive with greater care, especially around schools,” Cr Stapledon said.
“I urge all motorists to slow down, be alert and travel at a safe speed, as offences of this type will not be tolerated near schools or school crossings where lives are at risk. This prosecution sends a strong message about how seriously Council takes the welfare of our youngest residents.”
