Messages support Legacy

AUSTRALIAN Army, navy and air force personnel can receive messages of support from the community in the lead up to Anzac Day.
The SMS and online messages will go to service men and women at home and overseas, and will raise funds for Australian families affected by war. Telstra will donate $1 to Legacy for every Message to the Troops message, up to $20,000.
“As someone who has served both within Australia and abroad, I know how much it means to get a message of support from your friends, family and general public in the lead up to and on Anzac Day,” Legacy chairman Charles Wright said.
“I urge all Australians to take 30 seconds out of their day to send a message – it really means a lot to the troops.”
Mr Wright said Legacy would use the donation to provide practical assistance around preventing social isolation, kids’ camps and respite holidays for widows.
Defence Chief General David Hurley said many service people spent long periods away from family and friends.
“Whether it be protecting our borders, assisting in disaster recovery or service abroad, these messages will reassure our people that Australia is behind what they are doing and appreciate their work,” he said.
The Message To The Troops service is open until 5pm on Friday 26 April. Send SMS messages to 044 SUPPORT (0447 877 678) or from telstra.com/anzacday.
