PAKENHAM’s first retail computer recycling program is a hit with residents.
The Bring IT Back program enables residents to recycle unwanted computer equipment safely and responsibly at Officeworks in Pakenham.
All old and unwanted computers, monitors and printers collected from Bring IT Back collection points will be recycled to make new products.
Each year an estimated 138,000 tonnes of new electronics are sold in Australia with 106,000 tonnes of electronic waste ending up in landfill.
Officeworks hopes that Bring IT Back will help to reverse this trend and help achieve the Federal Government’s target of a 30 per cent recycle rate by the end of June 2013 and an 80 per cent recycle rate by the year 2020.
Officeworks Pakenham Store Manager, Trish Coombes, said it was a great opportunity for residents.
“We encourage all Pakenham residents to head in store with their old electronics and our helpful Team Members will take care of the rest,” she said.
“Every little piece of equipment saved from landfill makes a real difference and it is much safer and cleaner than letting them gather dust at home or on the nature strip.”
