Festival funstars showcase youth

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

CARDINIA Shire Council will host its annual National Youth Week Festival on Sunday 14 April.
The festival is part of National Youth Week 2013 which is happening across Australia from Friday to Sunday, 5-14 April. It is a joint initiative of the Federal, State and local governments and a chance for young people to highlight their achievements and express themselves.
Council Youth Services Officer Heather Johnson said her and the committee had enjoyed organising the event.
“We’ve had the best time organising this year’s event, and it’ll be wonderful to see it all come to life!” said Heather.
“It’s aimed at young people aged between 10 and 25, however we encourage people of all ages to come on down and get involved in the day’s excellent activities.”
Highlights of the festival will include the South Eastern League Skate and BMX competition as well as live music, a free barbecue, a rugby sports clinic, African drumming and free amusements.
Council’s MYBus will also be there, along with an interactive animal farm, face-painting, art on display, free giveaways and exciting stalls.
The National Youth Week Festival is funded by Cardinia Shire Council in partnership with the State Government and is a drug and alcohol free event.
The festival will be held at PB Ronald Reserve in John Street, Pakenham from 11am to 4pm.
