CARDINIA Relay for Life teams are encouraging everyone to come along on Friday night and see what the walk-a-thon is all about.
The shire’s inaugural Relay for Life is on at the Toomuc Reserve, starting at 6pm.
Cr George Blenkhorn, who is also on the committee for the event, said there were about 308 people registered and around 20 teams taking part in the event.
While it is the first event in Pakenham, the Casey-Cardinia Relay for Life event at Akoonah Park on 15 and 16 March will mark the 10th anniversary of the walk-a-thon in Casey.
Cr Blenkhorn said the event had been backed by the community and local businesses who had shown their support for the fund-raiser.
“We have had an excellent beginning,” he said.
“We have a very good and dedicated committee who have put a lot of work into this event.”
ABC commentator Drew Morphett will MC the event and Cr Blenkhorn said he hoped the community would come along and see what the relay was all about.
There will be face painting for children as well as massages available for those participating and a candlelight ceremony at 8.45pm.
