Fitness with fun

OVER 100 residents got up early and got active with Cardinia Shire Council’s Summer Fun Fitness Mornings in Pakenham and Garfield.
The events were so successful more are in the planning stages for Beaconsfield and Officer next year.
The events included obstacle courses for children up to five years old and parents, playgroup activities, book making workshops and story time.
Council’s Active Places Officer Simon Harrex said council was looking forward to bringing the events to other residents next year.
“These mornings are a great opportunity for young children to get active with their parents,” he said.
“At the same time, they are able to receive important information and support from local services like Maternal and Child Health and Cardinia-Casey Community Health Service.”
Cardinia Council Best Start Community Facilitator Nadine Ford also said playgroups in the park were a great way for parents to get out there and be active with their children.
The playgroup in the park activities proved to be popular with Council’s PlayStart Van and children were keen to get involved in the book making workshops, where they were able to make their own books about their favourite games. They also had the chance to read books written by other children inside the Cardinia Best Start book cubby.
Council’s Best Start Partnership co-ordinated the event with the aim to improve social support and community connectedness for parents with young children living in Cardinia Shire.
