Lucky escape for driver as truck rolls

A TRUCK driver had a lucky escape when his concrete truck rolled in Pakenham on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency service workers said the truck, loaded with concrete, would have weighed about 24 tonnes.
Pakenham CFA incident controller Grant Russell said the truck was going around the roundabout at the intersection of Racecourse Road and Bald Hill Road when it tipped over onto its side.
The driver, a man, was taken to hospital with cuts and abrasions but although shaken up was not seriously injured, Mr Russell said.
“He was pretty lucky, there were no cars nearby at the time,” he said.
Police, CFA and ambulance crews were at the scene after the crash about 3.30 pm.
A section of Racecourse Road between the railway crossing and the Bald Hill Road roundabout was closed to traffic for about two and a half hours.
Mr Russell said rescue workers remained at the scene until just before 6 pm.
