Time to honour soldiers

ENDEAVOUR Hills residents have been invited to attend the first Anzac Day service at the suburb’s new war and peace memorial next Thursday.
Casey deputy mayor Rob Wilson has organised the inaugural event, and said it was a great opportunity for the community to celebrate Anzac Day and recognise the efforts of Australian soldiers who fought so bravely for their country.
Many Endeavour Hills schools, including St Paul Apostle South, Eumemmerring Secondary College’s Gleneagles campus and Maranatha Christian College, will be taking part in the special ceremony, which starts at 2pm.
Students from St Paul Apostle South will perform the National Anthem.
Dandenong RSL president Alec Kowarzik will give the opening prayer and lay a wreath in memory of the fallen and departed comrades before everyone is invited to lay their floral tributes.
Piper Ian Arrell will play Amazing Grace as all service personnel pass by the cenotaph and place a red poppy.
Cr Wilson said the Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre and McDonald’s were also supporting the community event.
The Endeavour Hills War/Peace Memorial is in Heatherton Road, next to McDonald’s.
