Right: A Berwick all-boy team of gymnasts recently came third at the Victorian Men’s Artistic Gymnas

A BERWICK team of gymnasts recently made a big impression at a state gymnastics championship after being third overall.
The all-boy team came third at the Victorian Men’s Artistic Gymnastic Championships after eight of the team’s 22 gymnasts qualified.
Gymnast Luke Butler also came third in the vault and the team’s coach Steven Smith said he was proud of the team’s achievements.
The group trains at Funtastic Gymnastics in Berwick and Mr Smith said the team’s hard work and training had paid off when the boys competed in six events: vault, floor, parallel bars, horizontal bars, pommel horse and rings.
Mr Smith said gymnastics was proving popular with boys, who are aged between six and 12 years.
He also said this was the third time the team had competed at the state championships but the first time they had been placed.
“To have 22 boys is pretty good and this is quite a new group of kids,” Mr Smith said.
“We are very proud of the team’s results.”
