STUDENTS at the Gleneagles Campus of Eumemmerring College took their learning out of the classroom and into Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre last week to showcase their creative talents.
On Friday students took part in art classes, as they normally would at school, at the local shopping centre as well as providing shoppers with an exhibition of their work.
The project formed part of the campus’s Art/Technology curriculum, and the new Victorian Government Curriculum Standards known as VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards).
Arts Technology teacher Lyn Spooner said the initiative gave students the opportunity to exhibit their work in a public forum whilst establishing links with the community.
“It provides a wonderful opportunity to experience what it is like to organise and produce an exhibition, whilst further developing their communication and leadership skills,” Ms Spooner said.
“By taking the fantastic work our students complete into the community this allows them to showcase their talents, provides rewards for their effort and inspires local shoppers.”
The exhibition will include work recently shown at the Dandenong Show where the Gleneagles Campus was awarded the sash and cup for the Best Exhibiting School.
The award was given to the school with the most success in the show’s Art/Craft/Technology categories.
