THE Oatlands Primary School community came together yesterday (Wednesday) for their annual Remembrance Day service.
Former Victorian Premier John Cain, British ConsulGeneral David Seddon and United States ConsulGeneral Earl Irving were the special guests at the service which began with the national anthems of Australia, England, the United States and New Zealand, sung by the school choir.
Senior Sergeant Gerry Hengel and Sergeant Peter Barnes from Narre Warren Police and Casey councillor Mick Morland and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan also attended and all special guests and students laid flowers at the base of the national flags.
Australian Navy bugler Able Seaman Jamie Lawson played the Last Post and Reveille and student leaders Rebecca Leverington, Lauren Varadi, Michael Klose and Brent Bartels completed readings appropriate to the occasion.
A special part of the service was in memory of World War I veteran William Allan who passed away recently aged 105.
School Captain Rebecca Leverington read a eulogy to Mr Allan while music played softly in the background.
School Principal Stuart Daly said the Remembrance Day ceremony was an important part of the curriculum at Oatlands Primary School and Wednesday’s service proved a fitting tribute to all veterans, in particular William Allan.
