Residents can book in for hard rubbish

HARD rubbish collection in the City of Casey is now at the time of residents’ convenience.
The City of Casey is providing residents with a new hard waste collection service, which can be pre-booked at their convenience, replacing the twice-a-year summer and winter collections.
At the time of booking, the resident will be advised when to place their material out for collection.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said the new collection process provided a better, more flexible service for residents.
“Households are still entitled to two free hard waste collections per year, but residents must now pre-book their collection for a suitable date,” said Cr Aziz.
“This straightforward change is another step towards realising council’s commitment to improving the way we do things across all services.”
Cr Aziz said the council was committed to increasing the rate of recycling. In 2010-2011, the council’s hard waste service collected 9403 tonnes of waste, including 539 tonnes of green waste and 82 tonnes of electronic waste.
“More material from the hard waste is being sent for recycling, including electronic waste (e-waste), metals, white goods, mattresses and the new addition of up to four car tyres per property,” Cr Aziz said.
“This further realises the council’s vision to make Casey one of the most sustainable cities in Victoria.
“By re-evaluating existing processes and implementing innovative new waste management strategies, the City of Casey is taking steps in the right direction regarding the targets set by the state’s Towards Zero Waste policies.”
