Hills faces uphill run

By Jarrod Potter
ENDEAVOUR HILLS is facing an uphill struggle as they look to chase Elsternwick’s lofty 343 run target.
The Eagles’ inexperienced new ball bowlers, Matt Foenander (0/28) and Matt Aslett (0/46), held their own against the older batsmen from Elsternwick, but were eventually replaced with Endeavour Hills’ experts Richard Saniga and Shane Peake. The problem was that with every wicket Endeavour Hills took, the Elsternwick attack got stronger.
At 4/161, the match was poised as a coin-flip proposition. Elsternwick called successfully as Anton Scholtz (139 not out) and Eivion Bowen (50) piled on 155 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership.
When Bowen was stumped in a double-Peake effort from Neil, the wicketkeeper, and Shane, the bowler, Elsternwick had moved on to 5/316. The last romp from Scholtz got the visitors to stumps with 343 to their name.
Shane Peake was the pick of the bowlers with 3/94 from his 20 overs, Saniga took 1/60 and John Hayes 1/72.
The match resumes on Saturday at Sydney Pargeter Reserve.
