CANCER and quilting have brought 10 special women together as they prepare to auction a patchwork quilt for breast cancer research.
It will be the fifth quilt the Narre Warrenbased Patchwork Friends have auctioned for charity and the second to help fund breast cancer research. Sheila Young, 72, of Berwick is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and said two other women in the group were cancer survivors.
“We raised money for breast cancer before I was diagnosed as we all thought it was a great cause,” Ms Young said.
“We are raffling 500 tickets at $2 each for this quilt and are hoping to raise $1000.”
Patchwork friends have been meeting for 10 years and Ms Young said the group had become close.
“You make new friends of all ages as there is one young girl who is 20 and others are in their 40s,” she said.
“We all understand what each other is going through and support each other on our down days.
“I am having chemotherapy every three weeks so if I come in and am not feeling the best they make me a cup of tea and I feel very spoilt.
“It really is a special group and we are hoping to raise a lot for breast cancer.”
