THREE sets of Christmas lights meant for the enjoyment of local children were destroyed by vandals recently at a Heritage Springs, Pakenham, house.
The lights were wrapped around a tree in front of the house and were to complement the other decorations including blow-ups that Sharon and Andy Davy were yet to put up.
“I was really angry because we had to buy more and it’s just lucky that we didn’t have all the decorations up,” Ms Davy said.
They have since bought new sets of lights for the tree, but Ms Davy said that if it were vandalised again, they wouldn’t be putting any more decorations up in the future, which will be sad for the children who pass by. “It’s too expensive to replace them,” she said.
“It’s for all the kids, because kids love coming around looking at them and they get excited when they see a decorated house, but if everyone’s houses keeps getting vandalised, nobody’s going to do it and it ruins (Christmas) for the kids.”
She said Santa and Mrs Clause will be making a guest appearance at their house on Christmas Eve, which she hopes the children will enjoy.
“It’s exciting to see them happy.”
She hopes the vandals will not return and learn not to ruin other peoples’ Christmas spirits.
“If they get caught, they should be made to replace what they’ve broken,” she said. “Why should they wreck everyone else’s Christmases if they don’t like it. People should learn to respect other people’s property.”
