STRUGGLING families will benefit from the $28,000 that was raised during the recent 4Cs Golf Day.
Organisers Barry Pitcher and John Barker presented the cheque to 4Cs director Jeni Mathieson on Monday, who gratefully accepted the contribution.
More than 100 people participated in the competition, including Cardinia Shire locals and people from across Victoria.
Everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle before the game and a three course meal during the function held after.
Well-known Hawthorn AFLfootballer Michael Tuck was ambassador for the day and the guest speaker at the function.
Mr Pitcher said organisers originally planned to raise between $20,000 and $30,000, so the amount they managed to get was within expectation and a great result.
“The golfers on the day were very generous and the Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links course was in magnificent condition. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the golf immensely.”
With Christmas right around the corner and many families struggling to cope with the added costs, 4Cs is providing more than 1000 hampers and toys to those who are in need.
Mr Pitcher said the money raised from the golf day will inject much needed funds into the food bank, which continues to support families despite increasing demand in tough economic times.
“It’s just enormous for the food bank. They struggle financially because their funds are self-generated through the generosity of others.
With the ever increasing demand that’s being put on the food bank by our current economic climate, it just needed another fundraiser to keep it supplying for the extra demand.”
Mr Pitcher hopes it will become an annual event that will run sometime around the third week of November each year.
He thanked everyone for their generous support and contribution to the cause.
“On behalf of myself and John Barker, we’d like to thank everyone that attended the day, that volunteered to make the day what it was and lots of thanks to Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club for supplying the venue to us,” he said.
“We’d also like to acknowledge our major sponsors, Facey Industrial Commercial, RMBL Investments, the Cardinia Club and Heritage Springs.”
