ROAD Safety in Hampton Park is expected to improve with the help of a new action plan launched last week.
Beyond Hallam Road-the Hampton Park Road Safety Action Plan was instigated after five young people were killed in two tragic crashes in June and July 2009.
If implemented, the proactive plan, which is a list of actions identified by the local community, will ensure road users in Hampton Park have the maximum opportunity to remain safe.
Actions include lobbying for road improvements, liaising with schools and culturally-diverse groups and developing partnerships with road safety agencies.
Cr Shar Balmes said the success of an action plan like this and the work done by the community, in cooperation with the TAC and VicRoads as well as Victoria Police, City of Casey and RoadSafe South East, meant that lives would be saved. “No one should die or be seriously injured on our roads, and we should always aim to reduce the rate of injuries and fatalities at zero,” Cr Balmes said.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and we can all help make our roads safer through our own behaviour on the road.
“It’s in this context that I’d like to congratulate and commend the Hampton Park Progress Association and the TAC for their vision in developing and supporting Beyond Hallam Road.”
The action plan was launched by Casey Council, representatives from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), VicRoads, Victoria Police, RoadSafe, Hampton Park Progress Association and Hampton Park Community Renewal and local volunteers and participants from Casey’s L2P driver-mentor program.
