The Casinia Region, covering the City of Casey and parts of Cardinia, is looking for enthusiastic women aged 18 and over to take up the challenge and help girls and young women develop confidence and reach their full potential as either unit helpers or leaders.
Districts in Narre Warren, Narre Warren North, Narre Warren South, Berwick, Cranbourne, Endeavour Hills, Hampton Park, Hallam and Pakenham run weekly unit meetings, which provide fun, friendship and leadership skills for girls aged five to 18.
District leader Sandra Roach said local Guides relied on the support of their volunteer leaders for their units to stay open.
“Being a Guide leader brings various levels of selfsatisfaction by making friends with local parents and making a difference that can last a lifetime which benefits others in the community,” she said.
“Each woman brings a unique style to her leadership role, and has the opportunity to help others and develop her own skills and talents.”
Ms Roach also said leaders organised and ran regular Guide meetings that were educational and also strengthened teambuilding skills.
“There’s also many opportunities to run activities beyond the Guide hall, such as participation in statewide events, abseiling, camping plus loads of exciting activities,” she said.
Leader Janet Davis said she loved seeing the Guides grow and develop.
“Being a leader has given me a strong feeling of achievement, particularly when I see girls developing confidence,” she said.
Leaders take part in a variety of training that promotes their guiding awareness, leadership and future development.
