STUDENTS celebrated as two new buildings at schools in Casey were officially opened this week.
The new gymnasium at Kilberry Valley Primary School and a new contemporary learning centre at St Kevin’s Primary School were built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
The new gymnasium will allow all Kilberry Valley students to attend assemblies indoors.
The facility will also cater for a number of other uses, including performances by the Glee Club sing and dance and group and sporting events like the exercise dance-craze event Zumba.
The Glee Club and Zumba group performed at the Monday opening of the gymnasium, which was also attended by Holt MP Anthony Byrne.
“This is an outstanding gymnasium that the Kilberry Valley School community wants, needs and deserves,” Mr Byrne said.
“Flexible learning and sporting spaces are essential for our kids to have the best opportunities possible.”
Mr Byrne also attended the opening of the new contemporary learning centre at St Kevin’s Primary School which includes six joined classrooms, a ‘happy room’ for quiet classes and smart whiteboards for interactive classes.
The building incorporates solar panels and water tanks with software that enables the students to monitor power and water consumption.
It was awarded a Commendation New Construction by the Council of Education Facilities Planners International.
“This facility is a testament to what can be achieved when all stakeholders work together from the principal to the architects, tradespeople, staff, students and parents,” Mr Byrne said.
Principal Tom Coghlan said the project was conducive to contemporary learning practices and ensures the needs of the students are being met.
In Holt, there has been $129 million worth of funding spent across 101 projects to improve schools.
