AN ADVENTUROUS teen is swapping the Australian winter for the Canadian summer when he embarks on a scout camp overseas this month.
Narre Warren North resident Jake Smith, 13, will be heading to Vancouver this Saturday for a Scout Jamboree.
The member of the Narre Warren North Scout Group will join two scouts from Australia and many from across the world as they tour Vancouver camping outdoors.
He said he looked forward to meeting new people and seeing the wildlife, and wouldn’t be too worried if he crossed paths with a bear.
“I don’t think it would be too scary, I’ve seen snakes and spiders,” he said.
The Berwick Grammar student said he was lucky to have great parents who are supporting his first trip overseas.
“I think they are excited for me, but I think they are also excited to get rid of me for a few weeks,” he said.
Jake has been part of his Scouts group for almost three years, and said he encouraged other people his age to get involved.
“It’s a lot of fun. I like getting outside and doing stuff and meeting people,” he said.
“I would definitely tell people to join.”
Jake will return from the Scout Jamboree on 22 July.
