Bringing home the gold

NARRE Warren athletes Maddison Fenton and Nathan Kirk were in winning form at the Victorian Little Athletics State Championships on the weekend, bringing home gold medals in their throwing events.
Fenton threw a personal best in the under-14 discus, with a winning throw of 33.23 metres, while Kirk threw a massive 44.98 meters in the under-15 javelin.
What made the wins so special for the pair was that the championships were at the historic Olympic Park. It is the final year athletes of all ages are competing at the inner Melbourne sports arena, as it is being redeveloped.
“Maddison and Nathan have put in a hard year of training and it has paid off for them,” a Narre Warren Little Athletics club official said.
“Maddison was placed in the same event last year, and had her heart set on winning this year.
“She has been involved in little aths since the under-6s, while Nathan has been around three or four years.
“He has been involved in junior development squads.”
Under-9 competitor Joshua Booker was in the 70 and 80 metre hurdles and was placed 11th and 19th respectively. Under 12 boy, Chris Fenton, was placed in the top eight in the javelin.
Athletes return to the Dandenong Little Athletics Centre for the second Dandenong Little Athletics Championships on Saturday.
Parents are asked to sign on by 8.30am for duty responsibilities, to ensure an 8.45am start.
Narre Warren athletes train between 5pm and 6pm on Thursdays at Max Pawsey Reserve, Fountain Drive, Narre Warren. The club encourages parents to help out with training.
The annual general meeting of the club, presentations and barbecue will be held on Friday 1 April at the clubrooms.
