THE devastating loss of Tynong North murder victim Catherine Headland is never far from Catherine Reid.
Ms Reid was not around 25yearsago when her mother, Vicki, lost her good friend, Berwick girl Catherine Headland – a victim in the gruesome Tynong North murders.
However, she is proud of being named after her mum’s dead friend, and even takes solace in the fact that someone is looking after her from above.
As each year passes, the significance of where her name comes from grows stronger for Ms Reid, and with this year marking the 25th anniversary of Ms Headland’s disappearance and death it is all the more stronger.
Vicki said that the decision to name her daughter after her late best friend was not an easy one, but she does not regret it.
“As far as I’m concerned, Catherine (Headland) is sort of always with us now,” she said.
Oddities such as Miss Reid’s penchant for peanut butter and salt, which is something Vicki remembers her friend enjoying, only strengthen the connection.
“I sometimes feel like I’ve got a guardian angel looking over me,” Catherine Reid said.
The mother and daughter are still looking for answers to the unsolved murder of Catherine Headland and are urging members of the community who may hold vital clues to come forward.
