It’s a no child zone

By Bridget Brady
IT WAS all hands on deck at the Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre on Monday.
Staff rallied to clean up the damage the weekend’s flood caused to the Cranbourne North centre, which included two classrooms and an office that were completely flooded.
Assistant manager Lyn Craig said water rushed through one of the doors on Friday.
“The water has just flowed right throughout the centre,” Ms Craig said.
“We’ve had water in here before but not to this extent. The smell is just horrible.”
Ms Craig said staff were doing the best they could with the space they had available and did a big clean-up on Monday.
“We are coping, we have to. We’re all in here doing what we can.”
Classes were cancelled until at least Wednesday, but luckily the childcare room had been spared any damage and that service was able to continue as usual.
“We can’t just say no to the before and after school care.”
Ms Craig said equipment was damaged at the centre, but they were still assessing the full extent of the damage.
