Too soon to fix

FLOOD victims are being urged to allow time for their homes to dry before going ahead with repairs.
Victoria’s state manager of Archicentre, David Hallett, said mould could develop, materials could continue to move and floor coverings and carpets could lift and bubble if works were carried out before a house was dry.
“After standing in water, timber will absorb moisture and may take months for the moisture content to return to what it was.
“It must drop 12 to 16 per cent before wall linings are replaced,” Mr Hallett said.
