Rogers, Rotary on a roll

THE Rotary Club of Narre Warren celebrated its latest achievements, made plans for the future and welcomed new members at last week’s annual general meeting at the Fountain Gate Hotel.
Members selected a board and new president, with Roger McGill taking over from Roger Hall in July, 2011.
Lynne Westland and Tony Turpin were also inducted as members of the club.
Secretary Lyn Pickering, who with her husband Ian sponsored the duo, said the two would be great additions.
“These two should be very valuable members of our club, along with their partners, and we look forward to their involvement,” she said.
“They are both very positive people.”
Ms Westland, who manages Tobin Brothers at Narre Warren, said she was proud to be joining her local club.
Ms Westland was a former member of the Berwick Rotary Club.
“I want to say thank you to my past club,” she said.
“I am thrilled (about joining Narre Warren Rotary Club). I feel as though I have had lots of friends here for many years. It is a fun club and I am really looking forward to it.”
Berwick Rotary Club president Sjaak Kusters was at the meeting to support Ms Westland.
Mr Turpin, who is the Infrastructure Services team leader at the City of Melbourne, said he was also pleased to join the club.
“I want to thank everyone for making me and my wife feel welcomed,” he said.
“We look forward to assisting in any way we can.”
The club reunited on Friday for their annual fundraising golf day at the Cranbourne Golf Club.
Mrs Pickering said besides the golf, the club and president Hall were very proud of the various positive activities Rotary was involved in, including supporting a team of St Michaels students who recently won the National Title of Tournament of the Minds.
They also supported Loughlin Turpin, who gained a place in Canberra at the National Youth Science Forum for a two-week program. The club continued its involvement with Operation New Start and participated in a two week Food Handling course run by Phil McMillan.
