St Mina and St Marina Coptic Orthodox Church Pastor Abanoub Attalla said about 75 families have joined the Hallam parish in the past year and a new building was needed to support the increased demand.
The church is holding a community fete on Saturday and Sunday to help fund the new building, which is being built on its present site on Saffron Drive, Hallam.
“It is all going towards a big community church that will service the area,” he said.
Pastor Attalla said he was “very keen” to be an active member in the community.
He said entry to the fete is free. Lebanese foods, sweets, rides, face painting and an animal farm will be on show.
The fete will be held from 10am until 6pm at the St Mina and St Marina Coptic Orthodox church on Saffron Drive, Hallam.
The Coptic Orthodox Church is a Christian church, which was founded many centuries ago by Saint Mark in Alexandria, Egypt.
