New pledge for Outlook

LABOR candidate for La Trobe, Laura Smyth, has pledged $3.2 million to rebuild Outlook’s crumbling facilities.
The Pakenham-based disability service provider, which services the federal electorates of McMillan, La Trobe and Holt, has been struggling with leaking ceilings, rotting timber and asbestos-ridden walls.
Last week they staged a rally to highlight their plight.
Speaking to the News yesterday, (Wednesday) Ms Smyth said a re-elected Labor Government would commit $3.2 million to Outlook to demolish their existing building and build a brand new facility.
“Outlook began 40 years ago as a school established for local young people with a disability. Today Outlook offers essential respite care for the disabled in our community, as well as providing a range of classes and a men’s shed,” Ms Smyth said.
“The funding will allow Outlook to build a new community centre to house a broad range of community activities, as well as specialist services for local people with a disability.
Ms Smyth visited the facility yesterday with Minister for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese.
“This funding builds onthe Federal Government’srecord investment in local infrastructure such as $30 million for the Clyde Road upgrade,” Mr Albanese said.
