Parking aplenty

THE fences are up – a view of things to come for Pakenham’s township.
As works on the $80million Woolworths Pakenham Marketplace development gets underway, Pakenham shoppers and business operators have more than 280 car spaces to choose from in the CBD.
Cardinia Shire Council has negotiated with Woolworths a staged development of the construction area, in particular the Treloar Lane car park, which will progressively close over a four-week period.
Mayor Graeme Legge said people accustomed to parking in the Treloar Lane car park could still park within walking distance of the shops.
The development will deliver a new Woolworths supermarket, a Big W department store and specialty shops on a 2.9 hectare parcel of land bounded by John and Henry streets, Cook Drive and Treloar Lane. The proposal is expected to create to 700 new jobs and 1108 car parking spaces – including underground car parking and a host of expanded shopping opportunities.
Construction is expected to be completed by November 2011.
