Don’t be blue it’s an ingenious idea

ALL things denim was the theme at a Pakenham childcare centre on Friday.
Little Friends Cottage Children’s Service celebrated Jeans for Genes Day last week, helping to raise money for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
The kids made denim hand prints, wore stickers and badges and dressed up in jeans and jeans jackets to support the event.
Parents donated money and bought badges, helping the centre raise $100 for the Institute.
Little Friends director Tara Sudhir said it was important for the children to support the event.
“The children should be made aware that supporting these events makes a difference in everyone’s lives,” Mrs Sudhir said.
“The children may not remember now but they will as they grow up so we need to reinforce the message.”
Jeans for Genes Day runs every year on the first Friday of August and helps to raise money for children born with genetic diseases such as leukaemia, muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis.
So far this year the event has raised $264,000.
Mrs Sudhir said Little Friends regularly supported children’s health events such as Teddy Bears Week last month for juvenile diabetes and next month’s World’s Largest Lunch to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
