DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

Windy conditions made life difficult for golfers at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday with only five players successfully playing to their handicaps.

The best of those was A Grade winner Mark Hatton (13) who scored 38 points to defeat club president Rob Nobelius (14), who came in with 37 points on his card.

Lyriq Bester (24) won B Grade with an even-par round of 36 points, winning by one shot from Duncan Campbell (26).

Down the lines went to Peter Reilly and Leon Mateariki with 36, Colin Maclean 35, and Andrew Heagney and Murray O’Dwyer with 34 points. Those with 33 points were Brett McGee, Grant Wilson, Ron Zomer, Graham Brennan and Shane Franzi, while Dean Jones, David Mair, Nick Gray, Leigh Burton, Barry Williams, Steve Morgan and Frank Leontini secured balls with 32 points in the tough conditions.

Nearest the pin went to Alex Green, who plonked his shot to 1.35metres on the 16th.

Levi Sua (11) is one of the in-form golfers at the club and he continued his fabulous form on Wednesday by winning the mid-week Monthly Medal.

Sua was clearly the best player on the course, shooting a fine round of 79 off the stick to card a nett 68 for a three-shot win in A Grade over Harry Bolotin (13) on 71 points.

Another in-form golfer, Frank Leontini (20), won B Grade with a nett 72, just one shot clear of Tom McDermott (24) with a 73 nett.

Balls down the line were hard earned with John Roberts, Murray O’Dwyer, Harry Elyasie and Terry Bull scoring nett 73’s, while Chris McConnell, Ron Seamer, Tim Pratt and Rex Ryan all claimed a prize with nett 74s.

The Supercomp Back 9 winner was Leontini (20) with a nett 33, while the nearest the pin went to Colin Crowle (90cm) after a well-struck iron on the 16th.

A chilly but pleasant morning greeted the ladies of Deep Creek on Thursday with some great tee shots hit on the first hole.

Leah Barker (22) played a terrific round of golf, shooting 93 off the stick, to score 37 points and win by two shots from Norma Crebbin.

Other down the line winners were Ginny Carter 34 points, Yvonne Smith 31, and Kay Jones, Julie Cheng and Nola Kerslake with 30 points.

Nearest the pin (second shots) wen to: 2nd Hole: Norma Crebbin (1.55m) and to the winner Barker who had a birdie off the stick on the 16th.

Kougar Lloyd (21) emerged from a packed leaderboard to win Monday’s Par competition by one shot from four other golfers.

Lloyd finished square with the card to defeat runner-up Frankie Chiu (10), who finished on -1, the same score as the players he defeated on a countback…John Kingman, Kevin Sutton and Frank Leontini.

Harry Elyasie, Michael Banger, Noel Boyd, David McMahon and Steve Smith finished on -2, with John Piggott next on -3. Nearest the pin went to Harry Elyasie (3m) on the 16th.
