Break-in attempt a hard lesson

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

A 19-YEAR-OLD Officer student is urging commuters to be vigilant after his car was damaged during an attempted break-in.
Trent Westwood parks his 2002 model Mitsubishi Challenger at Officer Station four days a week and catches the train to attend university in Hawthorn.
Last Friday 6 November, Trent returned to his car to find that someone had attempted to pry open the driver’s side door.
“They may have targeted my car because it’s a bit older and has no alarm system, but it could happen to anyone,” he said.
“Most people do anyway but they need to be absolutely sure that their cars are locked and they also need to be aware that this is happening.”
He added that his car is parked at the station during daylight hours and at the time of the incident was positioned within view of the road.
“Be aware of anything suspicious and take note of people lurking,” Trent said.
The incident has been reported to the police.
