HIS musical wish has come true with the formation of local cover band ‘Wishbone’ now rocking out the city suburbs.
Pakenham guitarist Troy Hewlitt broke a few ‘bones’ before he found the perfect band members.
“It took five months and 14 different studio sessions to find the right people,” Troy said.
“We’ve been a band for just eight months and have already recorded an EP and played at pubs in St Kilda and Frankston – it’s kicked along real quick, we are trying to explode for next year.”
A passionate musician and back-up singer, Troy said the struggle to find the right people to jam alongside was the inspiration for the band’s name.
“Wishbone was a bit of a joke, because you’d shake hands and think you’ve got a new member and then they’d snap the wishbone and it wouldn’t work out,” Troy said.
Practising their rock covers at Pony Music in Hallam, the band hopes to cement a local following and entertain at events, clubs and festivals around the state.
“We rehearse once a week in Hallam because they have the most professional studios in the south-east as we continue to build our repertoire,” he said.
The four-piece band pride itself on producing music to dance to.
“We pick party atmosphere songs for guys and girls and our lead singer’s grandmother was front row at our gig in St Kilda – she’s in her eighties and she loved it,” Troy said.
Covering hit songs from INXS, Powderfinger, Grinspoon, Offspring and Jimmy Barnes, Wishbone’s demo album will be available in December through iTunes.
