Leaders set to get recognition- Karla Giuliano gets into the Australia Day festivities at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham last year. 59289

AS MANY gather around the barbecue with family and friends, community crusaders will be recognized at a number of ceremonies throughout the state. Cardinia’s best will be recognised at a function at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham.
Those nominated for the shire’s awards are listed below.

MICHAEL has been a committed volunteer in the Pakenham area for many years. He was a founding member of the Yakkerboo Festival and is a volunteer board member for Pakenham Aged Care, Outlook and the Pakenham Show. He was a member of the local CFA rising to the rank of captain.

ROSS is active in a number of community organisations including the Upper Beaconsfield conservation group, the electric line clearance consultative committee, Water Watch with Melbourne Water and the Quarry Impact Committee.
Ross was the driving force in the QI which resulted in the successful creation of parkland in Officer.

LES Reader has been a member of the Beaconsfield Progress Association for eight years, president for the last four.
Les is a church councillor and on the committee of management of the Probus club.
Les has been a strong advocate on a range of issues that could affect the Beaconsfield community, the most recent by leading the objections to the Pink Hills pokies VCAT application.

PAKENHAM Pregnancy, Baby And Kids Expo held their first expo this year and provided a range of information on services to parents and parents-to-be in the area.
The door fee was donated to a range of community groups that provide services within the Cardinia. Local small businesses were also given a chance to showcase their products.

THE Pakenham Op Shop has provided much-needed donations to many community groups such as 4Cs, CFA, SES, Little Athletics, U3A, Arthritis group among a few.
They are the only op shop in Pakenham that donates all its funds to local groups.
The shop has been run by volunteers for over 40 years.
