Westfield magazine madness

By Lia Bichel
THE manager of a news agency in Westfield Fountain Gate fears a kiosk placed in front of his store could drive down business.
Rajeev Goel, who is one of the managers of Fountain Gate newsagency on two levels of the Narre Warren centre said he was frustrated that a kiosk selling magazine subscriptions was recently placed in front of his level one store.
“I am worried that each subscription they sell means I will lose business because people will not come in to get their magazines,” he said.
“And when people come in to get their magazine, they usually buy other items as well.”
Ms Goel said he has spoken to centre management who explained to him that the national Westfield office was responsible for the problem.
“I understand it is out of our centre’s hands, but something needs to be done quick,” Mr Goel said.
Westfield Fountain Gate Centre Manager Tim Broxham said the centre was working with Mr Goel to address any concerns he had.
“We always work closely with our retailers to address any issues and this situation is no different. We believe that mutual satisfaction has been reached but if that’s not the case then of course we will continue this dialogue,” Mr Broxham said.
“It’s a normal part of doing business.”
