Fishing ban shelved

A PLAN to ban fishing at Lakeside has been put on hold.
The contentious plan to ban fishing in the lake has been deffered by councillors, as council officers want to clarify some confusing points in the Cardinia Shire Council Fishing Policy.
Despite being keen to push the ban at Monday night’s meeting, councillor Collin Ross agreed to defer the decision on the policy until the next council meeting so that council staff could clarify their responsibility over the water body at Cardinia Lakes estate and other lakes yet to be developed in new housing estates.
“I have agreed to defer it because there is some uncertainty over the controlling body of the water at Cardinia Lakes,” Cr Ross said.
“The developer is yet to hand it over to the council, so we just want to clarify what powers we have to enforce the policy.”
A final decision on the fishing policy is expected at the next council meeting to be held on 12 December. -Melissa Meehan
