COMMUTERS will receive safety tips and advice about using public transport this month.
The City of Casey, Victoria Police, Casey Cardinia Transport Connections and Metro are encouraging the community to be vigilant with their safety when travelling on trains.
Representatives from the organisations will be visiting every railway station in Casey to offer practical tips and advice on maintaining personal and vehicle safety when using public transport.
Senior Constable Dani Lord, Crime Prevention Officer for Cardinia Shire, the City of Casey and City of Greater Dandenong said the campaign had been very successful so far.
“We are encouraging people to feel better about travelling on the train and being confident about travelling on their own,” she said.
“Commuters can reduce the risk of becoming a victim by learning ways to protect their belongings.
“The council, Metro and Victoria Police are working together to make (rail travel) safer.”
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said the council was proud to help people discover how they can improve their safety when travelling on public transport.
“The safety and wellbeing of the community is of paramount importance and this community safety campaign aims to raise awareness of the actions commuters can take to improve their safety,” Cr Balmes said.
