More to be caught on camera

SPEED and red-light cameras will be switched on at an additional 32 locations across Victoria, including two in the City of Casey.
This month, the Coalition Government will turn on the cameras which were installed by the former Labor Government at 32 sites across the state, including one at Heatherton Road and Monash Intersection in Doveton and South Gippsland Highway and Thompsons Road in Cranbourne North.
The Coalition Government refused to activate them until the Auditor-General validated Victoria’s road safety camera program, Minister for Police, Peter Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the report found the cameras were focused on safety and not revenue raising.
He said it was fitting that the cameras would be switched on this month.
“October was the worst month on our roads last year with 36 people fatalities, representing an eighth of the 2010 road toll in just one month,” Mr Ryan said.
